She emphasized the critical role of community engagement in rural Alaska, where civic participation is deeply ingrained in daily life. She stated, &#8220;In a small village or community, civics is just a normal part of day-to-day life, and engaging in community decision-making is necessary for everyone.&#8221; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think one of the things that Alaskans are acutely aware of that I&#8217;m realizing isn&#8217;t a common theme throughout America is that we&#8217;re all connected,\u201d Peltola said. \u201cWe&#8217;re all related. Anything good that happens to one group is good for everybody.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on her roots in Bethel, Alaska, Congresswoman Peltola expressed gratitude for the tireless efforts of educators and advocates gathered in the room. She remarked, &#8220;I&#8217;m from Bethel and happy to be here. I&#8217;m thankful for all the work you all do in this room. It&#8217;s just so important.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congresswoman Peltola emphasized the importance of opening educational pathways for students from diverse backgrounds, noting, &#8220;Breaking down the barriers to access to education is so important in America and Alaska that we must build an education system that welcomes and encourages first-time college students.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing from her own upbringing in Bethel, where access to education was a cornerstone of her family&#8217;s values, she underscored the power of public schools and the profound impact of educators on shaping future generations. She shared, &#8220;My mom was the first person in her family to graduate from high school&#8230; She could do this because of public schools and because her grandparents and her parents understood the importance of education.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Congresswoman Peltola addressed the pressing challenges facing Alaska, including the issue of &#8220;brain drain\u201d and food insecurity in schools.
