college access<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<p class=\"sub-title wow\">COE and its members support millions of low-income, first-generation students through college access and retention services annually.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<div class=\"description wow\"><p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">President Lyndon Baines Johnson<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\"> never forgot his experience as a young man teaching impoverished children in a Texas elementary school.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\"> As part of the Great Society ushered in by his Administration, the United States saw the proliferation of several <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">anti-poverty programs<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">, to include <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Upward Bound<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">, which was created through <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">A year later, the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">H<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">igher Education Act <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">of 1965 <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">created <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Talent Search<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\"> program. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">In addition to these two programs, in 1968, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Student Support Services<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\"> was rolled out as part of the Higher Education Amendments. Together, the three programs became known as \u201cTRIO\u201d but grew to include four more student programs that followed over the next <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">several <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">decades: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Veterans Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Program<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">, and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Upward<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">Bound Math-Science<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW136696422 BCX0\">.
