She most recently served as chief of staff in the Office of <strong>Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY)<\/strong>, acting as Representative Suozzi\u2019s principal liaison with <strong>House Democratic Leadership and the Ways and Means Committee<\/strong> offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2009 until 2017, Shust was chief of staff to <strong>Representative Jim McDermott (D-WA)<\/strong>. She supervised the introduction of bills to reduce student debt, including one adopted by the <strong>U.S. Treasury Department<\/strong> as official guidance shielding 50,000 <strong>Corinthian College<\/strong> students from owing taxes on forgiven student loan debt. Before this, Shust directed government relations at the <strong>National Education Association<\/strong> for sixteen years, from 1993 to 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDiane has a unique perspective and insight into how Capitol Hill works,\u201d said <strong>COE President Maureen Hoyler<\/strong>. \u201cHer experience as a public defender, legislative counsel, lobbyist, government relations director, and chief of staff to two Members of Congress helped her develop a keen expertise around education legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She received her bachelor\u2019s degree in juvenile justice and master\u2019s degree in education from the <strong>University of Pennsylvania<\/strong> and her Juris Doctor from <strong>Georgetown University Law Center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n<section class=\"poin-contact__wrapper poin-contact alignfull  has-background gradient-as-background coe-block\">\r\n\t<div class=\"poin-contact__inner container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"poin-contact__inner-headers\">\r\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"h2 poin-contact__title\"> Media Inquiries<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t<p class=\"poin-contact__text\"> <p>For media inquiries or to arrange an interview, please contact Terrance L.
